Anjum Siddiqui

artist | designer | musician | thespian

Symbolism is what my work strives towards, where a single leaf would convey the whole nature in its totality.

Anjum Siddiqui

Anjum Siddiqui, a Toronto, Canada, based artist is originally from India. After finishing from The Lawrence School, Sanawar, she went on to study at The College of Art, Delhi University, India. And graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Advertising and Designing. A professional graphic designer and a visualizer, she continues to pursue her passion for the fine arts.

Anjum had the rare opportunity of learning from the late M F Husain, one of India’s leading contemporary artists. He was dubbed the ‘Picasso of India’ by the Time magazine. Husain had been Anjum's mentor since she was a mere 10 years old child. From him she learnt his usage of color and other painting techniques. She has the privilege of being his only pupil.

My body of work is an exploration of interpersonal relationships and its place in the physical world. The everyday life that we live, the different ways we interact with each other. Its an expression of what it means to live in an urban environment and yet be dogged by our past beliefs.

Anjum, has breadth and reach of a complete artist. She paints with ease in all mediums—acrylic, watercolor, oil sticks, dry pastel, ink, and lead pencil. She has also painted with acid dyes on 100% silk cloth panels.

With a degree Advertising Design, ofcouse I do Branding and Packaging, under the aegis, Simplyblack Designs. I love catching 'just the right moment' with my nitzy, digital SLR camera, Fuji XT30!

There are two strong points in my work - my drawing and usage of colour. I use a wide range of colours and tones in my paintings, sometimes vibrant and at other times more subdued. Colour is what gives my work dimensions.
