Anjum Siddiqui, a Toronto, Canada, based artist is originally from India. After finishing from The Lawrence School, Sanawar, she went on to study at The College of Art, Delhi University, India. And graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Advertising and Designing. A professional graphic designer and a visualizer, she continues to pursue her passion for the fine arts.
Anjum had the rare opportunity of learning from the late M F Husain, one of India’s leading contemporary artists. He was dubbed the ‘Picasso of India’ by the Time magazine. Husain had been Anjum's mentor since she was a mere 10 years old child. From him she learnt his usage of color and other painting techniques. She has the privilege of being his only pupil.
Anjum, has breadth and reach of a complete artist. She paints with ease in all mediums—acrylic, watercolor, oil sticks, dry pastel, ink, and lead pencil. She has also painted with acid dyes on 100% silk cloth panels.
I have always loved Poetry and recently started writing my own, in Urdu and in English. I write art reviews and have published two coffee table Art Books. But it was our 'Prose Club' that got me writing fiction!
Honestly, it was on a pure whim that I auditioned. And discovered I could act! Have done a plays and short films. Trained in Indian Classical music, I play the Sitar under the tutelage of Ustad Ghulam Dastgir Khan.
I have done Art Exhibitions and several collborative Projects with other artists and NGO's. I have also recieved a grant from The Ontario Arts Council. Click below to see pictures, press coverage and other media interviews
